RETIREMENT- Please join us in congratulating Lieutenant Dana Tissue for his 35 years of dedicated service to Central Pierce Fire & Rescue! Lieutenant (Lt.) Dana Tissue started as a volunteer firefighter with Pierce County Fire Dist. 12/Buckley in 1988. While attending Paramedic school from ’88-’90, he worked for Madigan Army Medical Center as an EMT/Paramedic and Flight Medic with M.A.S.T. Dust-off 54, providing advanced life support (ALS) services to Ft. Lewis/McChord Air Force base and surrounding fire districts. Dana retired from the Army in 1992 and worked with Sheppard Paramedics until starting his fire service career in 1997 with Central Pierce Fire & Rescue, later promoted to Lt. MSO in 2010. Over the years, he dedicated his time to the HazMat team and served on the WA State Task Force USR as a HazMat specialist, eventually becoming a Medical Specialist in 2015. As part of the task force, Dana deployed for 21 days to the Oso Landslide, as well as, 18 days to both Hurricane Harvey & Urma in 2017.
Dana has a passion for educating. He served as a primary instructor with the Pierce County Paramedic Advanced Airway Management course and taught numerous classes for CPFR and other fire districts. He is an Alumni of the National Fire Academy in Maryland specializing in ALS Support & HazMat operations, and leadership in EMS. “Duty before self” was always his Mantra and upheld that to his fellow brothers and sisters throughout his career. Fun fact, in 2007 Dana was selected to represent CPFR in the Cook and Ladder Firefighter Cooking competition in NYC. He came in 4th place nationwide with his Smokey Salmon Chowder recipe.
Dana enjoys SCUBA diving and has traveled all over the world to instruct and dive with his high school sweetheart of 40 years. In his retirement, Dana looks forward to further travel, camping, boating, and creating exciting experiences with their three grandsons.
